With UNL Independent Study, you earn credits while you learn in the way that’s best suited to you.

1. Open enrollment courses – These courses offer maximum flexibility. You can finish some courses in as little as five weeks, or as long as one year. Open enrollment courses are a fantastic option for people trying to finish a last-minute graduation requirement or prerequisite, or for those trying to fit gen ed courses into their degree programs now so they can finish faster.

2.Semester-based courses – These classes are only available to UNL students and run in conjunction with the University’s semester schedule, so your class will start and end at a set time. With semester-based courses, you know your “classmates” are learning at the same pace you are, so it’s easy to communicate with them or even create online study groups. 3. Summer courses – Available only to UNL students, our summer courses let you take campus with you. Whether you’re interning, vacationing or working at your old job all summer long, our summer courses let you earn credit in your free time, at your own pace.
